Student lust

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Studentenlust is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 285). The work was performed for the first time on January 31, 1864 in the Redouten Hall of the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The waltz was composed for the general student ball in 1864 and premiered there. However, it was not dedicated to the students, but to the noble ladies who had made themselves available to the student body as patrons (patronesses) of this ball. Both in the introduction and in the coda, Strauss quotes the song In the deep basement I sit here . As a result, the work gradually disappeared from the concert schedule. This was also due to the large number of Strauss' compositions in those years, which displaced each other from the concert plans. To this day, the waltz is overshadowed by the composer's better-known works. The waltz Studentenlust was or is more of an average work by the composer. Just one of many.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes and 9 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
