Hourly traction

The hourly pulling force is the pulling force that can be delivered uninterruptedly for one hour by an electric locomotive or a diesel locomotive with electric power transmission without parts of the locomotive such as transformers , converters , traction motors , cables being excessively heated by the hourly current . Since the heat loss in locomotives depends on the performance , the hourly pulling force can only be given together with a speed .

The hourly output depends on the ambient conditions. It is influenced by the outside temperature, the air pressure and the wind conditions. The applicable environmental conditions are specified in national standards or are specified by the client.

The highest possible (maximum) pulling force at the start of travel from a standstill is referred to as the starting pulling force for traction vehicles and towing vehicles .
