Storm lighter

A storm lighter is a lighter that produces a flame even when strong air movements ( storm , wind , draft ) prevail. They were originally developed in the military environment.

In principle there are three types:

  • One creates a strong, wind-protected flame (Fig. 1).
  • The other generates high heat, similar to a welding machine .
  • The third, simplest type consists of a flint and a prepared wick that is made to glow by the flint - in this case, stronger air movement even leads to a stronger glow (Fig. 2).
