Suavi

Mehmet Suavi Saygan (born 1950 in Kırıkkale ) is a singer from Turkey .

Life

Suavi was born into a civil servant family. As a teenager he founded his first band "Meçhuller" ("The Unknowns"). With this he initially financed his architecture studies in Ankara and in this way laid the foundation for his later musical career.

In 1996 Suavi won the music competition "Altın Anten" ("The Golden Antenna") and was then allowed to represent Turkey in Asia's song contest "Voice of Asia", which he also won. In 1997 he was recognized as the best composer and interpreter in Turkey. Suavi set poems by Nazim Hikmet , Ahmed Arif and Hasan Hüseyin Korkmazgil to music.

He has been working with his current band since 2002. He sees music as a means of communication for his social commitment. In the texts, he takes up social and societal problems and issues. His music is a mixture of traditional Turkish and Western sound forms, which is evident both in the line-up of the ensemble and in the choice of instruments.

Suavi was also on stage with Grup Yorum .
