The Greek kanón ( Gr. Κανών ) means “guide, guideline, yardstick, model, rule, set of rules, law” or “authoritative”. From the well-jokingly student language translation of this predicate that emerged in the German phrase "appalling" , which colloquially generally of very poor quality is meant.
