Suez conferences
The Sueskonferenzen found in 1956 after the surprise nationalization of the Suez Canal -Betreibers by Egypt in London instead.
On July 26, 1956 , Egypt had surprisingly nationalized the Suez Canal Society , which was owned by the West. The states concerned therefore organized a series of conferences in the British metropolis on how to proceed. From August 16 to 23 , September 19 to 21 and October 1 to 5, three Suez conferences were held, at which 22 states were represented. The participants agreed to propose a body of Suez Canal users to manage the sea route and to protect and enforce their interests vis-à-vis the state on the Nile . The Soviet Union was the only participant to reject this and stressed Egyptian sovereignty for all institutions on its territory. Egypt was also unwilling to change.
