The Suez Canal Authority ( SCA ; Arabic هيئة قناة السويس, DMG Haiʾat Qanāt Al-Suwais ) is the owner, manager and operator of the Suez Canal . It was established by the Nationalization Act signed on July 26, 1956 by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser , which expropriated the Suez Canal Company's assets and transferred them to the SCA. The SCA is an independent legal person. In German terminology it would be called an institution of (Egyptian) public law . Its administrative headquarters are in Ismailia . The Board of Directors) consists of 13 people under the leadership of the Chairman & Managing Director. Since August 12, 2019, this has been Admiral Osama Mounier Rabie.

SCA owns the Suez Canal and all associated land, buildings and operating equipment. It issues the traffic regulations and sets the fee rates for the use of the canal and collects these fees. Fees are calculated in SDRs and charged in US dollars, euros, etc. In 2015, it raised around $ 5.175 billion for the passage of 17,483 ships. She is responsible for the operation, the safety of traffic and the maintenance of the Suez Canal and all related tasks. The SCA is responsible for the radar and computer-aided traffic management, the 14 pilot stations and the pilots. She has been running the Maritime Training and Simulation Center with a simulator for the education and training of pilots since 1996 .

According to the Nationalization Act, it is independent, but is bound by the Constantinople Convention of October 29, 1888 , which grants ships of all nations the right to use the canal on the same terms, and this also applies to warships and, during times of war, ships of warring parties .

It operates around 60 ships (including tugs , dredgers , floating cranes and various smaller watercraft).
