With Sunburst (in German something like: "solar flare") refers to a special type of paint , particularly in plucked instruments such as guitars and mandolins , but also with drums is used. This paintwork consists of a color gradient from mostly translucent, light paintwork in the middle of the instrument body to a dark, opaque paint application on the edge of the body. A distinction is made between the two color gradients (two-tone sunburst) and gradients with an additional intermediate color (three-tone sunburst) .
