The Sunneggatunnel is 1,584 meters in length (in the line) the longest funicular tunnel of Switzerland . It is located in Zermatt in the canton of Valais and leads from the village (1,600 m above sea level) to the Sunnegga ski area at 2,288 m .
The tunnel was opened as one of the longest of its kind in 1980, and the funicular railway running in it is entirely underground.
