Sunrise Period

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term sunrise period or preferential phase refers to a period during the introduction of a new top-level domain or second-level domain during which the registration of domains is reserved exclusively for owners of registered trademarks. This phase of introduction is intended to prevent domains with registered trademarks from being secured in the name of private individuals and having to be recovered by the relevant companies first in court ( cybersquatting ). After the sunrise period, anyone is free to register domains.

Numerous top-level domains were introduced with a sunrise period, and this is also planned for others, for example: .info, .mobi, .pk and .eu. The .info Sunrise Period was carried out by the World Intellectual Property Organization .
