Supreme Court of Liberia

The Supreme Court of Liberia (German: Supreme Court of Liberia) is the highest court in the West African state of Liberia . The seat of the Supreme Court of Liberia is in the "Temple of Justice" on Capitol Hill in Monrovia .

The court was authorized on January 5, 1839 by the American Colonization Society as a court of justice for the then colonial territory of Liberia .

Art. 15. The judicial power of the Commonwealth of Liberia, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such interior Courts as the Governor and Council may from time to time, ordain and establish. The Governor shall be, Ex-officio, Chief Justice of Liberia, and as such shall preside in the supreme court, which shall have only appellate juris diction. The Judges, both of the supreme and interior courts except the chief justice, shall hold their office during good behavior.

The court consists of the Chief Justice of Liberia and four Associate Justice , who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. These judges must not have exceeded the age of 70 years.
