Yorkshire Bank 40

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yorkshire Bank 40 was a one-day cricket competition of the English first-class counties, which was played for the first time in the 2010 season and ran under the name Clydesdale Bank 40 up to and including 2012 . From the 2014 season he was replaced by the Royal London One-Day Cup .

history

In view of the increasingly popular Twenty20 cricket, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) was forced to restructure classic one-day cricket in 2009 and replace the two previous competitions, the Pro40 and Friends Provident Trophy . So for the first time since 1968 there was only one List A competition in England. The new sponsor Clydesdale Bank , who had previously sponsored the Twenty20 Cup , was signed by the ECB for three years. In addition to the 18 first-class counties, Scotland , the Netherlands and an English amateur selection under the name Unicorns took part in the tournament. Ireland had also been invited by the ECB, but declared its waiver, as the Irish federation wanted to concentrate on its international tasks, which made it possible for the Dutch team to participate.

Tournament format

All games were played in 40-over format. The teams were divided into three groups of 7 teams each, the three group winners and the best runner-up qualified for the semi-finals.
