Swaran (Ossian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Swaran von Lochlin is in the work Ossian of the Scottish poet James Macpherson the son and successor of King Starno von Lochlin (Scandinavia, old Irish Lochlann ). His sister is Agandecca , the childhood sweetheart of the Scottish King Fingal .

In the epic Fingal , Swaran invades Ireland with a large army and defeats the general Cuthullin of the Irish King Cormac.

As the sea rolls on rocks with a thousand waves, so the power of Swaran rolls on Erin; As rocks plant a thousand waves of the sea against them, so Erin plants against the power of Swaran. (Ossian: Fingal )

It was only when Fingal, Cormac's ally, intervened with his troops, that Swaran was beaten and captured. Fingal reminds him of the sacrificial death of Agandecca and is able to persuade Swaran to conclude peace and return to Scandinavia.

Swaran is a fictional character from Macpherson and has no equivalent in the Celtic tradition.
