Swarm is a mobile app and location service from Foursquare that enables registered users to connect with friends and share their current location. Points are awarded for each check-in, and the user can publish his or her current location on Twitter and Facebook . The service is available in 14 languages.

Functions

Users can "check in" at locations using a mobile app. The app is available for Android , iOS , Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile . A user holds the most check-ins at a single location, so it becomes the Mayor (Mayor) of the site.

Occasionally the user receives stickers (formerly badges ) as badges for special check-ins. The requirements for receiving these badges differ depending on the badge, for example there are badges for particularly frequent visits to a location, regular visits or one-off visits to special locations.

History and Development

As a spin-off and companion app from Foursquare, Swarm was released on May 5, 2014 for Apple's iOS and Google's Android and on August 13, 2014 for Windows Phone 8.1. In July 2014 the application had 2.1 million users (Mobile Unique Users), in August the number was 2.9 million.

On October 3, 2015, the app registered over seven million check-ins that day, which is the most check-ins in the history of Foursquare and Swarm in one day.
