Sydney Smith (Coroner)
Sir Sydney Alfred Smith (born August 4, 1883 Roxburgh (New Zealand) , † May 8, 1969 in Edinburgh ) was a British forensic scientist.
Life
Smith attended Roxburgh Public School and Victoria College, New Zealand . He later went to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland . After a brief period in general medicine, he became an assistant in the forensic medicine department at the suggestion of Harvey Littlejohn . In 1914 he received his doctorate. From 1928 to 1953 he was Regius Professor of Forensic Medicine (Edinburgh) . In 1949 he was knighted as a Knight Bachelor . From 1954 to 1957 he was Rector of Edinburgh University. Since 1929 he was a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
