The synagogue in Valdemārpils (German Saßmacken ), a city in northwestern Latvia , was built around 1830. The derelict synagogue was used as a storage room after the Second World War .

With the attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the entire territory of Latvia came under the control of National Socialist Germany until July 8, 1941. This began the annihilation of almost all of the local Jewish population.
