Synagogue in Uncastillo

The synagogue in Uncastillo (called Sinagoga mayor or Synagoga de la Judería in Spanish ), a municipality in the province of Saragossa in the Spanish autonomous region of Aragon , was built in the second half of the 13th century.

The synagogue , located in the Jewish quarter (span. Judería ), served the Jewish community in Uncastillo as a place of worship until the expulsion of the Spanish Jews in 1492. After that, the city council had its seat in the synagogue building. After the construction of the new town hall in the 16th century, the building was sold to private individuals who furnished apartments in it.

During archaeological excavations from 2004 onwards, the remains of a mikveh were discovered in the basement of the synagogue building.
