Syndet

With Syndet (compound term in English Synthetic Detergents or syn thetic Det ergentien , such as "man-made detergent"), synthetic detergent active substances referred to or synthetically produced surfactants.

The term is intended to distinguish it from soaps , which are ascribed an allergy-promoting effect and poor skin tolerance. For Syndet as an alternative to the standard bars of soap, however, special skin care and suitability for allergy sufferers are claimed.

However, these are a primarily strategic marketing neologism, because on the one hand and soaps (ie the sodium - or potassium - salts of higher fatty acids .) In a chemical process called saponification , recovered, and could consequently as synthetically be called . On the other hand, the broad group of synthetic detergents also includes substances such as. B. cationic surfactants , which often have a pronounced skin intolerance.
