Syrgenstein (noble family)
The Syrgenstein (also Sirgen von Sirgenstein, Sürgenstein, Syrgen, Sürgen) were a noble family from Swabia in the Freiherrnstand. They built Syrgenstein Castle near Wangen. The Altenberg Castle near Dillingen on the Danube , at the feet of which lies the Syrgenstein community, named after the family , was also part of their property . In addition, they were hereditary marshals of the Constance monastery and for a certain period also owned Achberg Castle and the rule of Amtzell. One of their best-known representatives, Engelbert von Syrgenstein , was Prince Abbot of Kempten from 1747 to 1760.
