Systema

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Systema ( Russian Система , literally translated The system ) is a Russian martial art .

Training includes, but is not limited to: hand-to-hand combat, grappling , knife fighting, and weapon training. In Systema, the body must be free of tension, full of endurance, flexibility, effortless movement and explosive potential; the “mind” or psychological state must be calm, free from anger, irritation, fear, self-pity, delusion, ego and pride. Systema originated from the traditional fighting styles of the Cossacks and Slavs .

Systema has four pillars - breathing, relaxation, posture and movement, as well as using an attacker's impulse against him and controlling the six body levers (elbows, neck, knees, waist, ankles and shoulders) through pressure point application, punch and weapon applications.
