The SzGV M1 to M4 diesel locomotives with diesel-electric drive belonged to the Szeged narrow-gauge railways built with Bosnian gauge . The locomotives were in operation there until 1975. One locomotive has been preserved and is being rebuilt in a working condition on the Budapest Children's Railway.

history

At the opening of the Szeged Narrow Gauge Railways, these four locomotives started operating. With a trailer load of 80 t, a line speed of up to 45 km / h could be achieved. A 550 V generator was connected to the diesel engine, which supplied the energy for the four traction motors mounted in the bogies.

The locomotive could travel 300 km on one tank of fuel. The engine was shown at the World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929 and won a Grand Prix there . At the end of the 1940s, the original Ganz JAR 135 engines were replaced with a newer model. The locomotives were in service until the end of railway operations on the Szeged narrow-gauge railways around 1975.

As a result, the M1 – M3 locomotives were scrapped and only the M4 remained. This was taken over by the Széchenyi Museum Railway . In 1991 the locomotive was taken out of service. In 2001 it was given to the Budapest Children's Railway with the aim of making it operational again. While the work was initially limited to securing the locomotive, refurbishment began in 2010 with the aim of putting the locomotive back into operation with the original Ganz JAR 135 engine .
