Szélanya (" mother of the wind ") or Szélanyó is a ghost in Hungarian mythology . The legendary figure is a personification of the wind.

The legend is about a wind that blows from a cave on the top of a mighty mountain somewhere at the end of the world. The cave is guarded by the old woman Szélanya. According to some versions, a strong wind blows when Szélanya, also known as the witch , dies.

According to villagers, it was not allowed to curse or curse the wind as it caused bad luck. It was also forbidden to throw axes or other objects into a cyclone so that Sélanya would not be injured and the crops would not be destroyed.
