Scene1 (spelling: SZENE1.AT) is a party and event community that has existed since 2003 and, in a broader sense, its own Austria-wide social network based in Linz, Upper Austria. A special feature is the unlimited access to all past event photos, even for non-registered users! Users are also given the opportunity to set up free user profiles and upload their own pictures. Besides looking at the photos, the main activity is primarily in the flirting area. Here, too, an extensive free offer is made available. Scene1 claims to have over 350,000 registered users, making it the most successful social network in Austria.

history

The roots of scene 1 lead to the techno event "Infidelity". Josef Voglsam, the organizer of the event, made advertising in the form of digital photos, which he then published on the website of the event. Shortly afterwards, Franz Tretter joined in to further develop the portal technically. After a strong increase in visitors, the team was expanded to include Rudolf Rabenhaupt. In 2003, the independent event platform Szene1 was created. In the first few years of its existence it spread mainly in Upper Austria . With the advent of Web 2.0 and the strong growth in visitors, the changeover to new software began in October 2007, which is based on the Zend framework and should offer several functions to improve communication between users. Among other things, this was implemented through a group function similar to that of StudiVZ . Another important step was taken on March 7, 2008 with the establishment of Szene1 New Media AG. Expansion in other countries is to be accelerated under this AG.

distribution

According to Alexa ranking, scene 1 in Austria was in 17th place in the national statistics in 2007 and was therefore more widespread than similar sites such as Facebook or Flickr . In the meantime, however, Szene1 has already been overtaken by the similar services Facebook and MySpace and is no longer among the top 100 most visited sites. For some time now, Szene1 has also been bilingual (domain bound). In addition to Austria, the main aim is to spread it in Slovakia .
