Sznajd model

Sketch of the two update rules that define the dynamics of the system. In both cases, the opinions of the two middle people are updated. Above: Social acknowledgment (English: social validation ). Below: discord destroyed (English: discord destroys ).

In the econophysics , a branch of nonequilibrium - Physics , which is sznajd model one the Ising model reinvented model of opinion dynamics that achieves a relatively complex dynamics despite simple rules. The model was developed by the Polish physicist Katarzyna Sznajd-Weron and her father Jozef Sznajd in 2000, which is why the German physicist Dietrich Stauffer introduced the name Sznajd model .

Regulate:

  • Social affirmation : If two neighboring agents have the same opinion, their neighbors will too.
  • Discord destroyed : If several neighboring agents have different opinions, their neighbors will also reconsider their opinion.

Classification and applications

The Sznajd model describes the dynamics on a network, which can be a simple grid , a scale-free network or any other graph . Since there are only two possible opinions in the Sznajd model, it is a binary network dynamic . In addition to the Ising model, this class of models includes e.g. B. also the bass diffusion model and others.

The Sznajd model has potential applications in many areas. In the financial world, the spin state can be seen as a trader who is buying a stock, while a trader who is selling off a stock would correspond to a trader.
