Tête-à-tête (seating)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A garden bench in the shape of a tête-à-tête

A tête-à-tête ( French: head to head ; outdated for a one-to-one conversation ) is a two-seater sofa whose seats and backrests of the individual seats are facing each other so that the interlocutors sit face to face without having to turn heads. The arm and back rests therefore have an approximately S-shape. The middle armrest can also be equipped with a small footprint. The aim of this construction was to create the greatest possible proximity for confidential conversations without annoying tables in between. At the same time, the middle armrest kept some distance.
