Töysä coat of arms

Töysä [ ˈtøysæ ] is a former municipality in the South Ostrobothnian countryside in western Finland . The community is monolingual Finnish . Since January 1, 2013, Töysä has belonged to the Alavus municipality in the Kuusiokunnat administrative community .

The place covers an area of ​​309.67 km 2 , of which 11.86 km 2 are inland water. The formerly independent municipality had the municipality number 863. At the time the municipality was dissolved on December 31, 2012, it had 3,122 inhabitants, the population density was 10.5 inhabitants / km².

Localities

Hakojärvi, Kirkonkylä, Mutkankylä, Suutala, Tohni and Tuuri belong to the municipality.

Tuuri is home to Finland's second largest department store, Veljekset Keskinen (Keskinen Brothers) , which is visited by more than five million customers from all over Finland and parts of Russia every year .

politics

As in most rural areas of Finland, the Center Party is the strongest political force in Töysä . In the local elections in 2008 it received almost two thirds of the votes and has 14 out of 21 members of the local council, the highest decision-making body in local affairs. The two other people's parties of Finland, the conservative National Assembly Party and the Social Democrats are represented by four and three members respectively on the local council; other parties did not run in the local elections. In the 2007 parliamentary election, the right-wing populist True Finns achieved a disproportionately high result with 11.5 percent of the vote in Töysä.
