TCP Fast Open

TCP Fast Open is an extension of the TCP protocol. TCP Fast Open is designed to accelerate the exchange of data over TCP by combining the first two of the three elements of the TCP handshake . For this purpose, after the first handshake, a cookie is stored on the client's side , which is used for authentication in the event of further inquiries. This is intended to significantly improve the response speed of web services.

TCP Fast Open was published by the IETF in December 2014 as RFC 7413. The Linux kernel supports TCP Fast Open on the client side since version 3.6 and on the server side since version 3.7. It has been used by default since version 3.13.
