THW helper association
The THW helper associations are usually registered associations whose non-profit status is mostly recognized through their activity in disaster control and through the promotion of THW youth by the local tax offices. There is a three-level hierarchy: local associations, state aid associations and the THW-Bundesvereinigung eV Together, these associations represent the interests of the voluntary helpers and support the THW local associations as well as the THW youth in matters of financial and material support.
The most important task is lobbying for the THW. This means that, for example, events for parliamentarians are held regularly. An outstanding example is “THW meets MdB” for the members of the German Bundestag. In addition, benefits such as insurance for members and material supplementary equipment are made available to the services of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.
The Helfervereinigung is also a co-founder of the THW Foundation .
history
The first helper association was Technische Nothilfe eV in Düren. This was later dissolved, so that the association founded in 1968 to support the Technisches Hilfswerk Siegerland eV is now the oldest active aid association.
Services
In addition to the statutory accident insurance , the helper associations offer their members additional insurance:
- Association liability insurance
- Group accident insurance
- Pet owner liability insurance
- Inventory insurance
- Comprehensive car insurance
As a rule, group accident insurance is taken out by the aid associations of the federal states in a framework contract with an insurance provider, which the local THW aid associations can join. Due to the large number of co-insured persons, the costs per helper can be reduced to an extremely low contribution. The copies of the respective insurance benefits depend on the respective national association.
Furthermore, the THW helper associations of the local branches are involved in the youth work of the THW. By financing purchases and providing support for excursions, parties, competitions and youth camps, most of the aid associations have included active support for young people in their association statutes .
membership
The THW helper associations are dependent on support from donations and membership fees for their voluntary work. In addition to the financial resources required to purchase equipment, the helpers' association also accepts donations in kind, which are made available to the local association for use. For example, donation projects have already been carried out in many local associations for the procurement of input materials, which the local association should have in stock as STAN material in the rescue and specialist groups, but which are labeled "External procurement ". Most of these are forklifts, truck and car trailers and guide vehicles. Most of these purchases are made through supporting members as donations in kind.
Active members
Active members are all natural persons who, in addition to membership in the helpers' association, are also active helpers in the technical aid organization. As a member, you enjoy the extended insurance benefits of the Helfervereinigung in addition to the statutory accident insurance of the THW.
Supporting members
All natural and legal persons who are not active helpers in the THW, but still want to support the voluntary activities of the disaster control are designated as supporting members. The sponsoring members are mostly relatives of helpers or local companies. The services provided to the THW Helfervereinigung in the form of membership fees as well as the contribution of material and monetary donations to support the project work can be claimed from the tax office by sponsoring members for tax purposes.
Honorary members
Honorary membership within a helpers' association can only take place through an appointment in the helpers' assembly and is reserved for members who have done outstanding or exceptional work in the association's activity for the local, regional or national helpers' association. The honorary members no longer need to pay membership fees after their appointment (anchored in most statutes). The honor takes place by awarding the badge of honor in bronze, silver or gold. The award must be applied for from the State Helpers Association or the Federal Aid Association.
