The THW Historical Collection ( THWhS ) working group, based at the THW Bundesschule Neuhausen , is concerned with researching, recording and documenting the history of the technical aid organization and its predecessor organizations.

The THWhS collects, secures and archives historical documents and objects of the THW, which report on history and organizational processes. She organizes exhibitions on history and provides information and historical questions about the THW. The primary goal is to process the organizational history.

tasks

  • Researching the history of the Technical Relief Organization (THW) and its predecessor organization. For example : interviewing contemporary witnesses, researching information in state and private archives and setting up your own archives.
  • Establishing a common basis of communication for all those interested in the history of the technical emergency aid (TN) and the THW. For example : information exchange and cooperation between individuals or working groups on specific areas of interest.
  • Collecting and archiving of historically important documents and objects of the THW. For example : setting up and further developing a central archive and country archives; Collecting and archiving sources (files, service regulations, books, pictures) as well as museum equipment, clothing, equipment and vehicles.
  • Publications on the history of the THW. For example : Creation of articles on THW history and a central image archive.
  • Design of exhibitions on the history of the technical relief organization. For example : setting up a permanent exhibition on THW history; Acquisition and registration of historical exhibits; Collaboration with other museums, archives, collections and exhibitions; Support of mobile exhibition groups or support of THW / truck, equipment and device collections.
  • Provision of information and advice on historically relevant questions of the THW both within the THW and for external interested parties.

organization

The THWhS working group is divided into work areas, each of which is led by a work area manager. The heads of the work areas are appointed by the governing body. You work closely with the corresponding organizational units in the THW management and other levels.

Employee

For the individual federal states there is a representative for the THWhS, who is selected in coordination with the respective state representative and appointed by the state representative. All active and former THW members, both voluntary and full-time, can be used. The representative for the THWhS in the regional association advises and supports the regional association as well as the respective offices and local associations in THW historical questions and maintains contact with the THWhS working group and the individual work areas.

The THW historical collection is also supported by the THWhS e. V. supports.

Locations

In addition to the headquarters, there are other locations where the THWhs is represented. These include the depot of the logistics center in Heiligenhaus, North Rhine-Westphalia, and the THW federal school in Hoya, Lower Saxony. Another location was opened in Munich in 2014 (vehicle depot).
