TM-XML

The Trade Mark Extensible Markup Language ( TM-XML ) is an open XML -based standard for business in relation to trademarks and the exchange of trademark information between the authorities for industrial property rights and its partners or users.

Objectives

The original goal was to establish an XML-based standard for exchanging brand information. In the course of specifications and after the creation of WIPO Standard ST.66, the following additional objectives were added:

  • Establishing XML-based standards for trademark offices and the business related to trademarks
  • Develop useful templates as a basis for creating WIPO standards
  • Establishing standards for branded web services
  • Provision of implementation examples and tools
  • Exchange of experiences, practices and knowledge
  • Promoting collaboration and harmonization of brand information and knowledge presentations
  • (New) Preparation of the future Semantic Web for the area of ​​trademarks in connection with intellectual property

The TM-XML standard was defined by a working group that the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market set up in June 2003. After eight drafts for comments (versions 0.1 to 0.7 and the preliminary version 1.0), the final version 1.0 was published on May 26, 2006 on the website TM-XML.org. The final TM-XML version 1.0 served as the basis for the creation of a WIPO standard with the designation ST.66, which was adopted by the Standing Committee on Information Technologies and the Working Group on Standardization and Documentation at their 8th meeting from March 19-22 Was adopted in Geneva in 2007.
