TRACON control room

A TRACON ( T erminal R adar A pproach Con trol ) is located a device for control of air traffic, and usually in the vicinity of a major airport. Aircraft are typically controlled within a radius of 56 to 93 km (30-50  NM ) of the airport and between the ground and 3000 to 4500 m (10,000 to 15,000  feet ). In radio communications, the TRACON is sometimes also referred to as Approach Control or Departure Control .
