Thyrotropin receptor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The thyrotropin receptor , also known as the TSH receptor , is a G-protein coupled receptor for thyrotropin on the thyrocytes , whose activity it stimulates.

There are two signal pathways: 1) The release of thyroid hormones and the growth of the thyroid gland are stimulated via the G s protein and the cAMP signal path.

2) Hormone production is increased via the G q protein via the phosphoinositol pathway. This is achieved through the induction of dual oxidase (DUOX) and thyroglobulin biosynthesis .

Even without binding to the thyrotropin ligand, the thyrotropin receptor has a basic activity . A disruption of sulfation by protein tyrosine sulfotransferase 2 can lead to a lack of growth and impaired hormone synthesis in the thyroid .
