history

The TSV was founded on October 15, 1993 through the merger of the two clubs TSV 1861 and 1862, which were newly formed in 1990. These in turn had already been founded as gymnastics clubs in the years 1861 and 1862 in the two districts of Zella St. Blasii and Mehlis. After the ban on all sports clubs after the Second World War and the reorganization of East German sport in company sports associations (BSG), several company sports associations were founded in Zella-Mehlis, including the BSG Motor West Zella-Mehlis. In the beginning she was very successful in fencing, later football occasionally reached district league level . After the computer technology manufacturer VEB Robotron-Elektronik Zella-Mehlis took over the sponsorship of the BSG in the 1970s , it appeared as BSG Robotron Zella-Mehlis. After German reunification, the VEB gave up its support due to the economic changes and the BSG was forced to transform itself into a civil association. The TSV was re-founded in 1861, reflecting the old days of the club. The soccer team, which had actually qualified for the new Thuringia regional league in 1990, was withdrawn for economic reasons. It was not until the merger with TSV 1862 that football was revived, and in 2006 it was promoted to the district league. After the end of the 2008/09 season, the football department was dissolved, with most players going over to local rivals WSG Thuringian Forest Zella-Mehlis. This currently plays (as of: 2012/13 season) in the eight-class district Oberliga Rhön-Rennsteig.

successes

Between 1953 and 1956 the fencing teams of BSG West were three times GDR team champions (sword men 1953, foil men 1955, foil women 1956).

The first soccer team of BSG West rose in 1961 and 1963 in the highest league in the Suhl district, the district league . The BSG Robotron succeeded in doing the same in 1981 and 1986. In 1967 the BSG West soccer team won the district cup and thus qualified for the GDR-wide FDGB cup competition 1967/68 . She had to compete in the first round against the neighboring BSG Motor Steinach and lost to the second division with 1: 5.
