TVTower is an open source , free economic simulation that is based heavily on Mad TV, which was released in 1991 .

The game is still under development and is available cross-platform , i.e. for the Windows , Linux (theoretically all distributions) and MacOS X operating systems.

Playable developer versions are released and made available for download several times a year.

The game

The point of the game is to operate a television station as profitably as possible. From MadTV beside the task was taken over to win the pretty Betty from the thirteenth floor to yourself. The game can be played in single and multiplayer modes.

Game logic and graphics are strongly based on the template. In essence, changes were only made where the existing hardware set limits. Criticisms of the previous game and expansions that appear useful were also taken into account.

The most important change compared to the original game is the introduction of 24-hour broadcasting instead of the daily broadcast time from 6pm to 1am. Furthermore, the number of AI players has been increased from two to three and the databases for the programs, advertising blocks and messages used in the film as well as the sender card have been made editable. The KI ( Lua scripts) can now also be edited.

Smaller feature changes can be found in the expanded in-house production of programs, the possibility of placing permanent commercials, call-ins and trailers in the broadcast program and variable time- or event-related news chains.

development

The game is developed with the free programming languages BlitzMax , C and Lua , whereby Lua is used for the development of artificial intelligence , which makes it easier to bring in your own ideas.

The database is open source and stored in readable text format, so anyone interested can download and edit it. In the course of development, the decision was made to develop via GitHub .

history

The first steps to develop a free remake took place in 2002 under the name TVGigant. The later name change was due to fears of a legal dispute with the Austrian game developer JoWooD Entertainment AG , which brought out a series of business simulations with the respective appendix "gigant".

The exclusively voluntary voluntary work took up a group around the Chemnitz software developer Ronny Otto. The latter is still the head of the otherwise changing colleagues.

The virtual home and the open discussion forum for development is the “Gamezworld” website, which was also known as the game archive for free games from the early 2000s.

Since autumn 2013, developer versions have been made available at irregular intervals and are regularly downloaded by more than 2000 users.

The game can currently only be played as an endless game.

Version v0.5.1 included for the first time, among other things, room rental, Sammy's, i.e. various awards for achieving certain goals, a master key to be received for all rooms, an interactive news archive on the table in the player's office, various fixes and other texts translated into English.
