history

The history of the gymnastics club Lich begins on August 15, 1860. On this day, friends of gymnastics from our town met and decided to found a gymnastics club. They elected a preparatory committee from among their number, which included the teachers Wertheim as President, Philipp Uhrhan as 1st assessor, Hermann Rau as 2nd assessor, Karl Reinmuth as 3rd assessor and R. Römer as secretary. This committee was given the task of issuing an appeal to the citizens of the city of Lich, which should encourage them to join as full or extraordinary members.

The echo of this call was evident on September 5, 1860 at the first general assembly (later called the general assembly). 46 members were present who also accepted the statutes that had been drawn up in the meantime (at that time called the statutes) with their signature. § 1 of these statutes read: "The purpose of the gymnastics club is to give its members the opportunity and guidance for physical training and to encourage them through joint gymnastics exercises." The statement about cultural purposes is missing here, because the club's history shows that the From the beginning, the gymnastics club has also performed cultural tasks in addition to physical education. This was not recorded in a statute until 1904. There it says, among other things, in § 1: “The purpose of the association, which existed under the name Turnverein Lich (1860), is to give its members all-round physical training in the spirit of Jahn and to awaken and consolidate a morally manly disposition and German popular consciousness. He seeks to achieve this purpose through gymnastics, gymnastics games, gymnastics trips, cultivating singing, socializing and through friendly relationships with all the sprightly German gymnastics clubs ”.

As the first gymnastics facility after the club was founded, the gymnasts rented the hall of the innkeeper Albach in what was then the little tower garden for 6 guilders a year. As early as October of the same year, this site turned out to be unsuitable and the association acquired the right to use the Albach'schen Hall in the lower town. In terms of gymnastics equipment, a horizontal bar and a bar were procured, which were made for 14 guilders, as well as two weights of 25 and 50 pounds each. The way was prepared, the gymnastics life had begun.

In November 1860, the first ordinary board of directors was elected, which consisted of 7 members - the 1st and 2nd speakers, the gymnastics officer, secretary, computer and two assessors.

The election resulted in: - 1st speaker: Konrad Ihring, - 2nd speaker: master tailor Metzger, - Turnwart: Dr. Winkler, - Secretary: R. Römer, - Computer: Spengler Kämmerer, - Assessor: Philipp Uhrhan, - Assessor: Teacher Wertheimer.

In the same month the board informed the gymnastics council in Berlin of the existence of a gymnastics club in Lich.
