TWZ (Russian: ТВЦ, also ТВ Центр / TV Zentr / TVC English transcription) is a television station in the Russian capital Moscow , which can be received nationwide. The station has around 2,000 employees.

history

TWZ was founded in 1997 and has been over 99% owned by the Moscow City Council from the start. TW Zentr was long considered the house broadcaster of the former mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov . Initially a Moscow station, the regional offer was later expanded and TWZ was offered in 4 regional versions. In 2005, an international version of the program was added for Russians abroad in Europe, Israel, the USA and Oceania. In Germany, this can only be received via satellite.

The broadcaster broadcasts a full program with a regional focus. The program offers a mixture of entertainment (music, sport, children's program) and political information. The political magazine Postscriptum, which is broadcast weekly and moderated by Alexei Pushkov , is well known . TWZ is a broadcaster loyal to the government and can also be received outside the Moscow region in the nationwide Russian cable network. Five regional program versions are broadcast:

  • ТВ Центр Москва - Moscow
  • ТВ Центр Центр - Western Russia
  • ТВ Центр Урал - Ural region
  • ТВ Центр Сибирь - Siberia
  • ТВ Центр Международный - International, also TVCI or TWZI

Market shares

The market share of TWZ in Russia in 2003 was around 3% nationwide, in Moscow itself over 7%. In a 2004 survey, around one in five Russians said they had seen TWZ in the last week.
