A freely definable text can be stored in a DNS zone with a TXT resource record .

This is z. B. used for SPF records - but there was also a dedicated SPF record type at times .

At the 21C3 there was a lecture in which it was described how TXT records etc. a. can be used for tunneling via DNS.
