The tobacco gun is a further development of the Snider-Enfield Rifle with a massive flap lock .

history

The term tabatière comes from French and means something like snuff box. The tobacco gun got its name because of the shape of its shutter. When it comes to closure, one often speaks of a can closure. The rifle was made with the relatively large 17.8 mm caliber . It is therefore cut out very far behind the chamber to enable the cartridge case to be ejected smoothly. The tobacco rifle is one of the many variants that are based on the Snider-Enfield Mark I II and III rifles.
