A Tamiya plug is an electrical connector for direct voltage power supply. It is used in RC model making to create a simple reverse polarity protected connection between the model and the battery pack . The connector was introduced by the Japanese model making company Tamiya , after which the connector type is also named.

construction

The Tamiya connector is available in two sizes with a width of 13.5 mm and the mini connector with a width of 9.5 mm. Usually the positive pole is connected with a red wire and a square profile. The negative pole is connected with a black cable and with a half-round-half-square profile in the standard version and a round profile in the mini version.

There is a possibility of linguistic mix-up of the connectors. The mechanical (male) plug uses female electrical contacts and, correspondingly, the mechanical female socket uses male electrical contacts. Electrotechnically, the electrical contact gives the plug and socket its name. The specialist trade uses the mechanical connector for designation.
