Tango de Salon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tango de Salón describes on the one hand a certain style within the Argentine tango and on the other hand this term is used in Argentina for any form of ballroom dance tango in order to distinguish it from stage tango .

In the Tango de Salón style , the interpretation of the music, the slowness and the elegance of the dancers are in the foreground.

The Tango de Salón was initially only danced by the upper class in order to differentiate itself stylistically from the common people. The music of the Tango de Salón is more melodic, slower and less staccato than that of the Tango Club or the Canyengue, for example . Accordingly, the figures are designed for calm, elegance and interpretation of the music.

Typical orchestras are Osvaldo Fresedo , Carlos Di Sarli or Miguel Caló .
