Taron (people)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Taron are a small ethnic group with only very few members in Southeast Asia today. Their name is derived from the Taron River, on whose upper reaches they lived about 200 years ago.

The short, 110 to 130 centimeters tall Taron live in the Golden Triangle between Myanmar , Thailand and Laos. The last four tarons live in the far north of Myanmar, in Kachin State in a difficult-to-access valley in the foothills of the Himalayas . In this mountainous area the tribe had once withdrawn for fear of enslavement .

Due to their small number and problems due to their close blood relationship , the Taron began to mix with neighboring peoples. It is therefore assumed that they will soon no longer exist as a separate ethnic group.
