Tarvaspää , also: Gallen-Kallela Museum , is located in Espoo , Finland .
history
It was built between 1911 and 1913 by the Finnish painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865–1931) in the style of national romanticism as a home and studio. It has been open to the public and used as a museum since 1961.
The collections include works from all areas of the artist's creative output: paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures, prints and applied arts. This includes the (original) furnishings of the house, the written estate and personal belongings. Gallen-Kallela's curriculum vitae is presented as well as that of his contemporaries, artist colleagues and friends.
The archive contains a catalog raisonné, a collection of photographs, correspondence and newspaper clippings, the Gallen-Kallela family library and the reference library of the Gallen-Kallela Foundation for art and art history at the change from the 19th to the 20th century.
