Taxpayer Identification Number

The Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is a by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS comparable, with the German tax office ) used identification number that to the IRS taxable persons is assigned. The TIN can not only be issued by the IRS, but also by the Social Security Administration .

The TIN can come from different number ranges:

  • Social Security Number "SSN"
  • Employer Identification Number "EIN"
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number "ITIN"
  • Taxpayer Identification Number for Pending US Adoptions "ATIN"
  • Preparer Taxpayer Identification Number "PTIN"

The German tax identification number is also a TIN.
