Teatro Municipal Maria Matos

The Teatro Municipal Maria Matos is one of two municipal theaters in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

It was built between 1963 and 1969 according to plans by Aníbal Barros de Fonseca in the municipality of Alvalade on Avenida Frei Miguel Contreiras and opened on October 22, 1969. It seats 582 people.

The first artistic director was Igrejas Caeiro . Initially, the stage was used by various theater companies. Since the acquisition by the city of Lisbon in 1982, the house has had its own permanent ensemble. Mark Deputter has been the artistic director since October 2008 .
