TZ PULS at the Landshut University branch

The Technology Center for Production and Logistics Systems (TZ PULS) in Dingolfing is the central research, training and demonstration location for best practices and innovations in production logistics . Since April 2016, four professors have been working, teaching and researching at the Landshut University branch together with their employees on the topics of intelligent production logistics, digitization , Industry 4.0 and lean management .

Learning and sample factory

The heart of the TZ PULS is the 900 m² learning and sample factory, which is a unique selling point in the German university landscape. The entire internal material flow from goods receipt to goods issue can be mapped and thus researched. In addition to the logistical hardware, software systems are also used for control and communication, but also for the investigation and optimization of processes. In addition, the learning and sample factory has human-machine interfaces that enable efficient organization of logistical processes.

The equipment includes:

  • Storage technology
  • Picking zone
  • Tugger train supply
  • Prefabrication stages
  • Final assembly and incoming and outgoing goods.

In addition, numerous Industry 4.0 components such as AGVs (driverless transport systems), transport robots, RFID, IoT elements (Internet of Things) and a real-time location system are available.

Logistics is an essential competitive factor for industry in today's environment. Dealing with the increasing variety of variants, increasing market requirements with regard to delivery and processing times, as well as the demand for rationalization and economic efficiency in indirect areas will have a significant effect on the production logistics of the future.

The research subject of the TZ PULS is the complete internal value chain from incoming goods to storage, internal material provision, the arrangement of the individual structural units, the control of the processes up to the outgoing goods. The value chain includes technology such as industrial trucks , containers and shelf systems, but also software systems for control and communication. Furthermore, solutions for the analysis and optimization of processes, as well as human-machine interfaces, which enable an efficient organization of logistical processes, are examined.

Key drivers of innovation are digitization and automation as part of the development towards Industry 4.0. As a result of this fourth industrial revolution, massive changes are to be expected for production logistics, which must be researched and used. The introduction and application of lean elements and digitization technologies for the internal flow of materials and information should make production logistics “intelligent”.

The aim of the TZ PULS is to collect this new knowledge in a structured manner, to further develop it and to provide an efficient and extensive knowledge and technology transfer in the form of new event formats based on the unique learning and model factory.

Professors

Lean logistics processes and optimized material flows (lean logistics) form the basis of the model factory. The introduction and application of lean elements and digitization technologies for the internal flow of materials and information make production logistics “intelligent”. The branch of the Landshut University of Applied Sciences bundles all the interdisciplinary competencies required for this in order to strengthen the competitiveness of the Bavarian manufacturing industry by achieving a high level of process maturity in the areas of production and logistics. Four professors from the faculties of electrical engineering / industrial engineering, mechanical engineering and business administration, each with over 15 years of experience in the field of production logistics, work together with their employees in practice-oriented research, teaching and knowledge transfer. courses

The core of the educational offer at the technology center PULS are the two part-time master’s courses

  • Process management & resource efficiency and
  • Value-based production management

These courses are aimed at future specialists and managers in the production environment. In addition, numerous internships for other courses will take place in the laboratories and the model factory of the TZ PULS. The students themselves can try out and experience this key learning content. By using the 900 m² sample factory and modern production logistics equipment, the students receive a practical reference.
