The ponds at Greetsiel are a protected, extensive natural monument in Greetsiel , a district of the municipality of Krummhörn , in the Lower Saxony district of Aurich in East Friesland . It bears the number ND AUR 00116.

Description of the area

The extensive natural monument designated on July 13, 1984 is located east of Greetsieler Straße in the immediate vicinity of Greetsiel. For the most part, it consists of two connected still waters with shallow water zones and the edge of the bank with bushes. The waters are of artificial origin and were created through soil degradation. According to the district of Aurich, the area is a “habitat for animal and plant species bound to wetlands.” In addition, the authority believes that the area has a “stimulating effect on the landscape”.
