Temperature measuring strips

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Temperature measuring strips or membrane thermometers are self-adhesive, consist of several temperature indicators and are used to measure the temperature on surfaces. They consist of substances that change color either reversibly or irreversibly at certain temperatures.

For example, they contain microencapsulated liquid crystals . They are also offered as clinical thermometers , room thermometers , aquarium thermometers , beverage thermometers or refrigerator thermometers .

Temperature indicators for industrial applications can help, especially in development work, to check, control or measure the surface temperature or its maximum value in inaccessible places. By means of irreversible statements, it can be determined afterwards whether a certain temperature has ever been reached or exceeded. For example, temperatures between 37 and 260 ° C can be recorded.

Today's temperature indicators are non-toxic and unbreakable. Historic thermoscopic paints sometimes contained mercury.
