Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a pinball machine from Williams Electronics that was released in 1991. The device was designed by Steve Ritchie and Doug Watson while the film of the same name was being made . So far, 15,202 pieces have been produced.

particularities

The T2 was the first Williams pinball machine to use a license theme. Since the film was still being shot at the time of development, no scenes from the film could be used for the design of the playing field and the artwork. So the representation of the terminator on the baking glass was pure speculation by the designer.

At the time of the display programming, which was done after the artwork, it was already known that the T1000 ( Robert Patrick ) was based on liquid metal. Therefore, a parallel to the real film could be built in for the “Shoot Again” animation.

With the Terminator 2, Williams has brought out its first pinball machine with a dot-matrix display under its brand name .

One month earlier, Williams released the Gilligans Island pinball machine with a dot-matrix display under the brand name Bally , making it the first pinball machine in the group to have one.

Introduced innovations

The T2 was the first pinball machine on the market to use a video mode. In this mode, a crosshair is shown on the dot matrix display, which can be moved with the buttons for the flipper fingers. Meanwhile, terminators appear randomly on the display that you have to hit.

Since the T2 was first introduced, video mode has been used as a type of mini-game by a wide variety of pinball machines.

successor

The successor is the pinball Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines from Stern.
