Tetraalkyl stannanes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tetralalkylstannanes are organotin compounds with the general formula R 4 Sn. They are colorless liquids that are not attacked by air or water.

Manufacturing

An alloy of tin and sodium reacts with a haloalkane RX to form the corresponding tetraalkylstannane:

Tetraalkyl tin synthesis A.

Alternatively, the reaction of tin (IV) chloride with the organoaluminum compound R 3 Al (R = alkyl) also gives a tetraalkyl stannane:

Tetraalkyl tin synthesis B

Reactivity

In the reaction of e.g. B. Tetraethylstannane with iodine creates triethyliodostannane :

Synthesis of triethyliodostannane
