Text REtrieval Conference

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) is a series of scientific conferences on information retrieval . These conferences are intended to support and promote research in the field of information retrieval. For this purpose, the infrastructure for a large-scale evaluation of information retrieval methods is provided. In addition, the technology transfer is to be accelerated.

The conference series is supported by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Disruptive Technology Office of the United States Department of Defense . It started in 1992 as part of the TIPSTER Text program .

Each conference consists of several tracks that deal with different problems. There is a competition for each track, for which NIST provides the participating groups with data sets and test tasks. After the results of the competition have been evaluated, a workshop offers participants the opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas and present current and future fields of research.
